- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪I was referred to a specific ENT at CHOP by my son's pediatrician for tubes. When I called, that particular ENT did not have availability until several weeks later. Instead, I scheduled with a different doctor for the earliest date and time available to ensure that we got the procedure done early in the cold season. Considering CHOP's reputation in the South Jersey area, I was extremely disappointed and uncomfortable. My son had the first appointment that morning but we were waiting in the exam room for a very long time (close to an hour on top of the time it took for the check in process and discussions with a nurse practitioner-probably 2 hours total). When I asked the staff how much longer to see the doctor, they advised me there were two patients ahead of my son. I'm unsure how that happened since he had the first appointment. My son was getting very antsy and irritable so I asked if it was okay if he played with the toys in the waiting area until the doctor was ready to see us and I was told if we weren't in the exam room, the doctor would skip over us. When the doctor finally did see my son, he seemed very rushed and overwhelmed. The explanation of the procedure and associated risks were very rushed. The doctor was very sweet to my son and apologized for the wait, but I was very disappointed. After the doctor left, a nurse came into the exam room to further explain the procedure and scheduling. When I exited the exam room to schedule the procedure in the check in area, the waiting room was like a madhouse with a line of patients stretching out the door towards the exit. Although this was a consultation for a "minor" procedure, the entire experience made me so uncomfortable that I left without scheduling it and immediately made an appointment with Neumours DuPont. My experience there has been, so far, wonderful. I think that, as a working mother, CHOP was very disrespectful of my time and the treatment of patients.December 20, 2016by Ragged Allan
